Hello friends, thanks for all your lovely messages in support of the shop - We dont have an exact closing date yet but it shall be mid June so come in and lap up the last of Hitherto at tinderbox!

We will be having a closing party so stay tuned to this website for details.

However! before we close we have a couple of splendid events coming up!

The first is an animation show by Joseph Mann with live music this Sat 24th May. Come instore to see the fantastic sets and characters of the film in person....there's a giraffe....so come! (see flyer below for more details) Starts at 8pm FREE.

The Second is a night of live music on Friday the 13th of June. Nalle will be treating your ears with support from Cian Nugent and the Family Elan.

Starts at 7.30pm and is FREE - youd be unlucky to miss it!

It is with great sadness and regret, that we are announcing the temporary closing of Hitherto.....we can not carry on in our current incarnation, without the support of David Williamson, who tragically died last month.

But, we will endeavor to continue our adventures with the same panache, in a new place, and perhaps with a new name. Please keep checking this website for the continuing story, and if this site becomes unavailable, please go to www.silkthumbs.com to be enlightened.

David Williamson
9th April 1966-17th April 2008

I met David in October 2006, to discuss the possibility of opening a shop/event space in the back of a soon to be opened Tinderbox in Merchant City.  After a couple of coffees, and an eager conversation about how we could start something the likes of Glasgow had never seen before...the seed of Hitherto was planted.  Despite my complete lack of experience, and true to David's maverick style, he gave me an opportunity which quite simply changed my life.  Within a month we were up and running, and in a short 17 months have achieved something truly unique.  Not only have Hitherto produced out of the ordinary gigs,  openings and projects (ranging from ltd. edition 7" singles, to customized wallets, t-shirts, and ukuleles) - we have also become a platform for young artists to find new ways of presenting their work to an unsuspecting public, who have come in for a great Tinderbox coffee.  Hitherto has become a venue that means so much, to so many people.  Without David, none of this would have ever taken place - he made it all possible, unquestionably.   His gentleness, generosity, and spark will continue to inspire us all.

INAUGURAL UKULELE GET-~TOGETHER - SUNDAY 6th APRIL
at HITHERTO, 6-7.30pm
 
Just a very quick note to invite you to the first ukulele jam of 2008. I know it's short notice, but if you can make it, please come along for some ukulele fun and a chat about where you might like the jam to go.
 
Don't worry about how well you can or can't play, just bring yourself and any chums and your ukulele if you have one. I'll bring a couple of spares.
 
The jam will start in earnest at the start of May, but just wanted to kick things off in April.

UKULELES DAY AT HITHERTO IS NEARLY UPON US!

Come in and see are ukulele rainbow! Each ukulele is customised by a different Glasgow artist as part of the Celtic Connections Festival.

Event on at 7pm on Friday the 8th of Feburary, various Glasgow musos, including Teenage Famclub's Norman Blake, will be settling down for a good old mini-banjo twang!

Exhibition Opening, 7-9pm Friday 30th November at Hitherto!

A collaboration of new work by Glasgow based illustrator Stuart White and London based illustrator Cornelia O'Donovan.

Make your own poster scenes from people and places sets made by Stuart and Cornelia. A limited run of 50 sets will be available. 2 A5 zines in each set with people and places to cut up and merge together as you wish.

There will also be an animating feature.

Plain Surface Launch on the 28th of November at Lowsalt, Renfrew St, 6-9pm alongside the exhibition opening of new work by Erica Eyres. Put it in your diaries and please come along. Open for 4 days.

Plain Surface is a Glasgow based and focused publication showcasing some of the cities best drawing talent.

The publication showcases 32 local artist/illustrators, each with a double page spread. The publication is litho printed on student wove off white paper and is perfect bound with a foreward by Sarah Hogg. Plain Surface is a community and would be blank without your interest and contribution.
